A 36-year-old man is facing his second DUI offense in 10 years after crash landing into an ice machine outside a Stafford County business, officials say.

Eric McDonald had to be extracted from his vehicle after allegedly drinking and getting behind the wheel before a dangerous crash at the Valero at 620 Cambridge Street.

According to a spokesperson from the Stafford County Sheriff's Office, shortly before 3 a.m. on Sunday, July 14, deputies were called to the gas station, where McDonald hopped the curb and "caused significant damage to the ice machine" on the side of the building, though he didn't stop there.

Investigators say that he then kicked the SUV into reverse and didn't stop until first responders activated their lights and sires.

McDonald initially refused to exit the vehicle and had to be extracted, when deputies said they noticed he had alcohol on his breath, glassy, bloodshot eyes, and slurred speech.

McDonald was charged with DUI second offense in 10 years, three counts of obstruction, felony destruction of property, refusal, no insurance and no registration.

Further investigation found that he was also wanted for contempt of court from the Stafford General District Court.

He's being held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail pending a bond hearing.
